• Senior Security Engineer (CDM)

    Job Locations US-DC-Washington
    Job ID 2018-3775
    Type
    Regular Full-Time
  • Position Description

Valiant is seeking a Sr. Security Engineer to support our client’s CDM (Continuous Diagnostics and Monitoring) program.  This is your chance to join our great company working to advance CDM for one of the Federal Government’s most innovative agencies.  You’ll join a great group of Engineers and clients who are passionate about the agency’s mission, which is comprised of a standard security tool suite with configuration for upward reporting government-wide. CDM makes adoption of the tools attractive to federal agencies from both a pricing and professional services perspective.  However, our client already has a mature security tool suite and strong processes that result in high acclaim in Federal IT Security scorecards, in the recent federal cybersecurity sprint, and in other government-wide measures.  In addition, existing security tools were procured specifically to answer agency requirements, and are tuned to operate effectively.

The challenge is to evaluate each CDM tool and make implementation choices with consideration of the “Cost of Transition” versus the “Cost of Integration”.  The CDM program does not require the adoption of its recommended tools; rather, it simply requires that the agency’ security tools provide the standardized upward reporting required for a government-wide security dashboard.  Thus, for each area of the suite (both network and system tools), they must consider the pros and cons of transitioning to a CDM tool. They must weigh that against the cost of integrating (or configuring) existing tools to match the upward reporting requirements.

Valiant Solutions is a rapidly growing small business that cares about it's employees- we've been named one of the Best Places to Work in the DC area FOUR years in a row! A highlight of our benefits is included below the job description.

    Job Description:

Lead support efforts in the integration of security tools to support the utilization of the CDM tool suite and data. Work on a small project team interacting with multiple stakeholders with the reach back support of a Security Program team.  The successful network candidate will have a solid understanding of security and network engineering, and will have experience integrating and tuning security tools, and similarly the successful system candidate will have similar integration experience for system security tools.

This position involves work on both the operations and advancement of our client’s CDM implementation.  A typical assignment might be to work with the CDM integration team to establish and test a desired configuration or capability for a security tool.  There may be assignments to report on the interoperability of tools, or the 3rd order effects of changes on other tools deployed.  The selected candidates will be given access to all documentation available on both the production security suite and the CDM design, but independent research and/or seeking out needed information must be part of the job.  The successful candidate will likely support the government in project meetings and/or attend on their behalf.
