Cloud Network Engineer

Valiant Solutions is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer to join our rapidly growing and innovative cybersecurity team!

As a Cloud Network Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader through active engagement, planning, proposing solutions, and executing deployments. Work on projects interacting with multiple stakeholders with the reach-back support of a Security Program team.  The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of security and network engineering and will have experience integrating and tuning security infrastructure projects.

This position involves working independently on identifying security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommending changes or enhancements. A typical assignment might include conducting a comparative analysis of a new security tool to support Zero Trust, developing a detailed design, and then guiding the tool's implementation. There may be assignments to report on the interoperability of tools or the 3rd-order effects of changes on other tools deployed. These security technology projects might be on-premise or in the cloud. The selected candidates will be given access to all documentation available on both the production security suite and the CDM design. However, independent research and/or seeking out needed information must be part of the job.  The successful candidate will likely support the government in project meetings and/or attend on their behalf.

The successful candidate will have proven experience deploying multi-site network security solutions to provide threat detection, prevention, and segmentation. This experience will include network security deployments within AWS or Azure.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of network security experience, including in-depth cloud security with AWS or Azure. Experience with TIC 3.0 (Trusted Internet Connections) is advantageous

• Experience implementing and operating security solutions in Amazon Web Services or Azure 
• Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls 
• Experience with 3rd party firewall deployment in AWS or Azure
• Solid command of routing & switching, firewall, and IDS/IPS technologies to mitigate modern security risks
• Solid understanding of network engineering and cloud networking will help identify gaps and remove any blockers
• Experience configuring intra-cloud or intra-VPC routing
• Experience with WAN networking, such as BGP routing deployments and configurations
• Solid experience with troubleshooting issues on complex networks and identifying root causes 
• Manage security information – including logging, auditing, and reporting capabilities 
• Experience with load balancers, web application firewalls, and Proxy is desirable
• Solid experience with Linux and Windows OS
• Excellent Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively, self-awareness, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to be a self-starter and work with limited direction

Preferred Certifications: 

• Security or other professional-level certifications like CCNP, AWS, Azure preferred              

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage network security solutions within Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft Azure environments.
• Deploying native cloud-based firewalling technologies such as "AWS Security Groups" and their equivalent in Azure.  This will be for segmentation and micro-segmentation within each cloud environment.
• Deploy, configure, and manage Palo Alto firewall solutions in AWS/Azure to ensure robust perimeter security.
• Secure network infrastructures, leveraging advanced knowledge of routing, switching, firewall, and IDS/IPS technologies.
• Conduct regular security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement appropriate security measures.
• Monitor network security, analyze logs, and generate reports to ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues, performing root cause analysis to resolve security-related incidents effectively.
• Implement and manage security information and event management (SIEM) solutions, ensuring comprehensive logging, auditing, and reporting capabilities.
• Collaborate with network engineering teams to design secure cloud networking solutions, identifying and removing any security gaps.
• Manage and configure load balancers, web application firewalls, and proxy servers to enhance application security.
• Maintain and secure Linux and Windows operating systems, ensuring they are patched and compliant with security standards.
• Develop and maintain security documentation, including policies, procedures, and incident response plans.
• Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of security awareness and continuous improvement.
• Stay current with emerging security trends, threats, and technologies, and recommend enhancements to improve the organization's security posture.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex security concepts clearly.

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $105,500 - $124,500 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described above.  Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice.
