Position Description

Valiant Solutions is seeking a Oracle Database Administrator to support our agile software development practice for a Federal Government client. The agency's programs aim to promote environmental sustainability and protect the natural resources of our planet. As part of this contract, we will support the agency's efforts to develop and maintain information systems that facilitate the tracking and reporting of environmental data. Our team will work closely with the agency to ensure that the information systems are secure, compliant with accessibility standards, and support the agency's business processes.


The Oracle Database Administrator will be responsible for optimizing software and data, maintaining and updating versions of software/hardware, and correcting problems (bug fixes) identified in the software, tools, or databases. The successful candidate will also be responsible for updating and maintaining all technical system documentation and adding new or modified data to one or more of the information systems’ databases. In addition, the ideal candidate should have experience with developing processes and techniques to store sensor data, satellite data, and information from numerical modeling in databases to produce new products and services.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in database administration and optimization
  • Experience with the full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with Oracle Database 12c or higher
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux operating systems and shell scripting
  • Experience with version control software such as Git or SVN
  • Experience with file transfer methodologies
  • Experience with optimizing software and data, maintaining and updating versions of software/hardware, and correcting problems (bug fixes) identified in the software, tools, or databases.
  • Knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL programming
  • Familiarity with software testing and debugging techniques
  • Experience with migrating legacy applications to new technology
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred, not required

 

Responsibilities:

  • Administer the agency's databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability
  • Optimize software and data, maintain and update software/hardware versions, and correct problems (bug fixes) identified in the software, tools, or databases.
  • Update and maintain all technical system documentation and add new or modified data to one or more of the information systems’ databases.
  • Develop processes and techniques to store data and information from numerical modeling in databases to produce new products and services.
  • Work closely with the team lead, business analysts, and other developers to ensure the application is functioning properly and meeting user needs
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues with the application data
  • Collaborating with other development teams and stakeholders to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the application.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting technical issues related to the application and database.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation such as system design, user manuals, and training materials.
  • Participating in code reviews and ensuring compliance with coding standards.
  • Keeping up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies related to software development.
  • Mentoring and coaching junior developers on the team.
  • Participating in project planning and management activities, such as requirements gathering, estimation, and scheduling.
  • Performance tune database tables as well as examine the applications to enhance performance across the DataBase.
  • Execute the annual Disaster Recovery exercise.
  • Conduct backups and restores as required.
  • Tracking and implementing Database patching as necessary.

  • Collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack
  • Oracle Database 12c or higher
  • Oracle SQL, PL/SQL programming

  • UNIX/Linux operating systems and shell scripting
  • Version control software such as Git or SVN

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $101,000 - $117,000 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described below.  Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice. 

 

Remote Work Policy
