Position Description

Valiant Solutions is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer (DLP) to join our rapidly growing and innovative cybersecurity team!

 

As the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead our efforts in securing sensitive organizational data, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management and, as needed, modifications of Microsoft Purview DLP, ensuring seamless integration with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. Your core mission will be to establish robust controls that prevent the unauthorized sharing and leakage of critical data across all endpoints, cloud services, and corporate data repositories. Additionally, you will be a key contributor to our incident response team, providing expert support for investigations to analyze and remediate potential data breaches.

Required Experience:

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust (High) 
  • 5+ years of experience in information security utilizing various Data Loss Prevention solutions with at least 2 years focused on an enterprise DLP solution utilizing Microsoft Purview.
  • 5+ years of related experience responsible for assigning and managing tasks.
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or related degree OR an additional 3 (three) years of experience. 
  • To meet the DoD IAT Level III requirements, you must have one of the following active certifications: CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, or GCIH.  
  • Proven ability to administer, configure, and maintain Microsoft Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools in a large-scale environment
  • Proficiency in data classification, sensitivity labels, and DLP techniques
  • Experience leveraging eDiscovery tools, Cyber Data Lake (CDL), and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms to support cyber operations
  • Skilled in monitoring, investigating, and resolving DLP alarms and alerts across enterprise systems
  • Ability to produce and present weekly and quarterly DLP metrics, including override reports and incident summaries
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Purview DLP and provide recommendations for DLP alarm tuning, criteria adjustments, and program enhancements based on data analysis
  • Demonstrated capability to guide the maturation of DLP programs through tool optimization and process improvement
  • Familiarity with incident response protocols and cross-functional collaboration in a cybersecurity environment
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for reporting, analysis, and stakeholder engagement

  • Microsoft Certified: Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate (Exam SC‑400)
  • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (Exam SC‑900)
  • Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate (Exam SC‑200)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (Exam AZ‑500)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate (Exam MS‑500)

 

Responsibilities

  • Microsoft Purview DLP Management: Design, deploy, and manage comprehensive Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies within Microsoft Purview to prevent unauthorized sharing or transfer of sensitive data across endpoints, cloud services, and on-premises environments.
  • Incident Response & Monitoring: Actively monitor and respond to security alerts and incidents related to data loss, utilizing tools like the Microsoft Defender portal for thorough investigation and remediation.
  • Data Classification & Sensitivity Labeling: Identify and accurately classify sensitive data types, leveraging sensitivity labels to enforce appropriate controls and protection measures through DLP policies.
  • Endpoint DLP Configuration: Extend DLP capabilities to endpoints, monitoring and restricting sensitive data usage, such as copying to USB drives or uploading via web browsers.
  • Cyber Operations & Event Correlation: Utilize the Department's Cyber Data Lake (CDL) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools to support cyber operations and enhance event correlation related to data loss.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Generate and maintain weekly and quarterly DLP metrics, including override reports and incident summaries, providing clear insights into program effectiveness.
  • Policy Optimization & Tuning: Provide analytical insights and recommendations to refine DLP policies, improve detection criteria, and conduct regular reviews and optimization of DLP rules and thresholds to reduce false positives and enhance threat coverage.
  • DLP Program Maturation: Support and guide the maturation of the Department’s DLP program, identifying areas for improvement and implementing industry best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to integrate DLP findings into broader incident response efforts and overall security posture.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management: Maintain thorough documentation on DLP processes, configurations, investigation outcomes, and tuning changes.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with emerging data protection trends and threats to ensure the DLP program remains effective and relevant against evolving risks.

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $115,00 - $150,000 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described above.  Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice.
