Position Description

Valiant Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy Accountant with strong Government Contracting (GovCon) accounting experience and deep expertise in Unanet. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong focus on payroll accounting, employee setup, PTO administration, expense reporting, compliance documentation, and audit support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, and comfortable working directly with employees, vendors, and cross-functional teams.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with Unanet GovCon
  • Experience in Government Contracting accounting environments
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting processes and related compliance needs
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Workspace, especially:
    • Google Sheets (formulas, functions, lookups, data validation, pivots preferred)
    • Google Docs and shared collaboration workflows
  • High comfort level with technology, systems, and learning new tools quickly
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively with employees and vendors
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
  • Accuracy and confidentiality with sensitive payroll and employee information
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort investigating discrepancies
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to explain processes clearly to non-accounting staff

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting audits (workers' compensation, payroll-related audits, internal documentation requests)
  • Familiarity with timekeeping/labor compliance concepts and project-based accounting
  • Experience improving workflows, templates, or reporting through spreadsheets and automation

 

Responsibilities:

Unanet + Employee Setup / Systems Administration

  • Maintain and manage employee setup and updates across Unanet and related systems
  • Ensure accurate employee records, labor categories, project assignments, and system access
  • Support system process improvements and ensure data integrity across platforms

Payroll Accounting + PTO Management

  • Post payroll entries and ensure accurate allocation to projects/cost centers
  • Manage and reconcile PTO tracking and reporting, including accruals and usage
  • Serve as backup payroll processor, ensuring continuity and accuracy during coverage periods

Payroll Compliance + Documentation

  • Prepare and process payroll tax documents and related filings as needed
  • Support workers' compensation audits, including collecting documentation, coordinating responses, and maintaining audit files
  • Maintain organized records to support internal controls and compliance requirements

Expense Report Management

  • Oversee employee expense reports for accuracy, completeness, policy compliance, and timely processing
  • Resolve expense discrepancies with employees and approvers as needed
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure correct expense handling and documentation

Communication + Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees regarding payroll accounting, expense questions, and documentation needs
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Support month-end close activities, reconciliations, and ad hoc accounting projects as assigned
  • Provide timely support to internal employees and external partners
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement and documentation of procedures
  • Perform other accounting duties consistent with a Senior Accountant role

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $100,000 - $110,000 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described above.  Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice.
